Have you heard?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is changing in several ways beginning with the 2017-2018 academic year:
Apply Early-Beginning October 1
That’s correct. You’ll be able to file your FAFSA 3 months earlier. No more waiting until January! This means, beginning October 1, 2016, you can complete the 2017-2018 FAFSA. This change to October 1 is permanent; each year from now on the FAFSA can be completed for the next academic year beginning October 1st.
Use 2015 Tax Information
You and your parents will use earlier income and tax information to complete the 2017-2018 FAFSA. 2017-2018 financial aid applicants will use 2015 tax year information when reporting personal and family income. (Yes, you used that same information when you applied for aid for the 2016-17 academic year.)
Apply On-line by Valentine (Lives On!)
With all these important changes to the FAFSA, one thing remains unchanged – UMBC’s priority financial aid application deadline is still February 14 for the 2017-2018 academic year. However, we recommend that you apply as early as possible to insure maximum consideration for aid. For more information about changes with the FAFSA, visit our website.
